B[R]YZANZ isimli kişisel sergisi,
18 Mayıs 2014’te
Oldenburg’deki Edith Russ Haus für Medienkunst’te izleyicilerle buluşuyor.
Serginin başlığı
B[R]YZANZ sanatçının geldiği yeri anlatmakla kalmıyor,
sanatçının işlerine
de vurgu yaparak kaos, rebel anlamında kullanılıyor.
Sergide sanatçının
video enstalasyonu Tales to a Young Girl
ve
heykel enstalasyonu Çocuk-Gelin
isimli iki yeni işi ile beraber,
Hamam ve Bordello gibi
önemli işleri de yer alıyor.
B[R]YZANZ, sanatçının
pratiğinin son 20 senesine yoğunlaşan
bir retrospektif
niteliğinde.
Şükran Moral son iki
işinde daha önce ele aldığı küçük kız çocuklarına dayatılan evlilikleri
bu kez de bire bir
yaptığı kız çocuğu heykeli ve Türkiye haritası şeklinde olan kanlı bir yatak
ile
çarpıcı ve sert bir dille eleştiriyor.

Sükran Moral, an artist who works in performance, tableaux vivants,
sculptures, and photos,
is a seminal figure in recent history of
contemporary art in Turkey.
Her works trace the
boundaries of gender roles and power structures.
She places
performance at the center of her artistic practice, at times documenting
performances,
at times transforming
performances into objects and installations.
She provokes,
challenging taboos, traditions, structures of hierarchy
—socially, culturally
and politically—, as well as art historical frameworks.
Her process involves
getting acquainted with the “other” by immersing herself
in their reality and physical space.
She has transformed a
large number of places,
ranging from brothels
and Turkish baths to mental hospitals and museums,
into platforms for performances.
These heterotopias
were exhibited for example as installation of the Istanbul Biennial of 1997.
Moral creates extreme situations,
in which social norms are subverted and the
suppressed is allowed to emerge.
In the artist’s words, “Provocation and
criticism are my artistic stance.”
